Mrs. Valena Brown-Miller

Valena Brown-Miller was born on July 30, 1938 to William Brown and Any Causey in Bonita, Louisiana. Always the faithful student, she received her education at Bonita Rosenwall and Union High School. She accepted Christ into her heart and life at an early age and dedicated herself to spreading the Gospel. In the mid-1960s, Valena moved her family to Milwaukee, WI, where she continued to do God’s work as a member of St. Mark AME Church. She worked as a personal caregiver in the medical field for many years, offering her love and service to those in need. Gifted with a gentle hand and caring heart, she loved working in the garden, helping others and serving the Lord. On June 16, 1991, Valena Brown was united with Tommy Miller in holy matrimony, as her already blessed life was adorned with love. In February of 1993 she received her missionary license, her Ordination in October of 1996 and became licensed to preach the Gospel in September of 2007. Her life is a testament of how God blesses those who dedicate themselves to the pursuit of making the world better. Valena Brown-Miller departed this earthly realm on July 22, 2013. She was preceded in death by her father; William Brown, mother; Amy Causey, grandson; Corey McClendon, and granddaughter; Breanna Woody. Valena leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy: her husband; Tommy Miller (Gary, IN), sister; Bertha Pierson – with partner Jim (Milwaukee, WI), daughters; Dorothy McClendon and Deborah Jones (Milwaukee, WI), son; Boris Welcher – with wife Serica (Milwaukee, WI), Stepdaughters; Cynthia Miller and Evette Lester (Gary, IN), stepson; Rodney Doub (Gary IN), sisters-in-law; Mary Felton and Albora Robinson, bother-in-law; Willie Miller, fifteen beautiful grandchildren and twenty-three wonderful great-grandchildren, and a host of irreplaceable family and friends. While she has taken her last breath and sprouted her new wings, she reminds those with sorrowed hearts and troubled minds that she is resting peacefully at home: “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” -2 Corinthians 5:1. And at this moment, the Angles are singing her name.
