Ms. Yvonne Marie Jefferson

Yvonne Jefferson is a native of Brooklyn, New York where she was born ~o the late Chester and Hattie Jefferson on August 18, 1945. Her family attended the Church of the Open Door, a Nondenominational Congregation,where Yvonne accepted Christ at anearlv age. Her spiritual growth was nurtured in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and B.T. U. (Baptist Training Union) as well as singing in the Junior Choir. The foundation for her academic training was laid in the New York Public Schools until the family relocated to Milwaukee, WI in 1959; with this transition she continued her education at North Division High School and graduated in 1963 .. In 1963 Yvonne united with the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by the iate Rev. Obie Sartin, Sr. Under Pastor Sartin's leadership her spiritual maturity was recognized in various ministries at different stages of her life: youth choir; mass choir, Sunday school teacher and Naomi Circle of the Missionary Society. While serving as chairperson of the outreach ministry she developed a concern for the elderly, homeless, and incarcerated which motivated her to spearheading the Thanksgivings Box Drive to serve their needs. On July 7, 1997 she was consecrated and sanctioned by Pastor Russell B. Williamson to do Mission Outreach Ministry which included visiting the jail, women's correctional Center, and Homeless institutions, to share the plan of salvation. Evangelist Jefferson; as she was respectfully known, was recognized with. awards and certificates for her ministry in the community in participation with the Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention women's Auxiliary. Her career expanded many jobs before she discovered her interest in the medical field while work as a nursing assistant in various hospitals for five years. Her 40 year career in the medical field climaxed with a 35 year tenure as a medical instrument tech at the VA Hospital. Caring for people was her passion. As a young volunteer she stayed with hospice patients, some of them being members of the church family. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 27, was her licen~e plate and her favorite songs were "When You Hear of My Home-going", and "The Cloud of Glory is Moving". Yvonne departed this life on January 14, ~019. She was preceded indeath by her parents, Chester and Hattie Jefferson; and sister, Jacquelyn Jefferson Addison. She leaves to cherish her memories: four brothers, Leroy Jefferson of Des Moines, lA, Russell, Raymond (Shelia), and Daryl (Carla) Jefferson all of Milwaukee; nieces, Kelly Nicole Jefferson of N], Janine (Damon) McCoy of Atlanta, GA, Adriana and Mariana, Jefferson; nephews, Jim (Emily) Addison, Jeff (Myra) Addison, Darrell, Markell, and Marquise Jefferson; great-nephews, Caleb and Damani Jefferson; a host of great-grand nephews and nieces; special cousins, Alvera (Tony) Perry Ellis, Ercele Carrington, Barbara (William) Warren of Las Vegas, NV and Carol (Ovell) Twilley of Chicago, IL; god-sisters, Margie Jackson, Joan Fields, Rose Collins, Joy Cunningham and her Zion Hill Prayer Partners; Mother Stegal - my mom; and Devela Lathan my sister caregiver.
