Mrs. Zarah Gean McLean

Zarah Gean McLean, MD "Doc", "Psyco", was born on August 28, 1942 to the union of Bush and Marth Hall in Tallulah, Louisiana. Her family relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1949. Zarah accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ, where she participated in various ministries: choir, the Angel Olivia Hortman Scholarship, Project of the Month, church Fundraisers, and the annual Christmas program leading carols. Zarah receive her secondary education within the Milwaukee Public School System. She attended Lincoln High School in Milwaukee, where she was the class president in 1960, and participated in numerous clubs, band, Sr. Orchestra, student council, and was voted by her fellow senior class as "The Most Likely to Succeed" and received the Citizen Trophy Award. Zarah received a full academic scholarship from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where she continued her education from 1960-1964. While at Fisk she continued to participate in sports, student government, many activities, organizations: including Beta Kappa Chi scientific honor society and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and even served as student instructor in biology in the summer of 1963. She graduated with high honors from Fisk University in 1964, with a B.A. degree in Biology. Zarah continued her graduate studies at Howard University, College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. While in medical school, she became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree, in 1968. Dr. McLean then returned home to Milwaukee to continue her medical training in her chosen specialty of Pediatrics, as she completed an internship and her residency training at Milwaukee Children's Hospital. She started practicing pediatric medicine working with her mentor, Dr. Leroy Mitchum and eventually started her own private practice, where she provided medical care to thousands of children in the Milwaukee area until 2008, when she had to retire due to health issues. Zarah married Russell L. McLean in 1971, and they were blessed with four amazing and wonderful kids. Zarah departed this life on Saturday May 23, 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Aurora at Home Zilber Family Hospice. Zarah was preceded in death by her husband, Russell McLean; son, Rayford McLean; parents, Alford "Bush" Hall and Martha Hall; brothers, Nathaniel Hall and Robert Hall; and sisters, Queen Ester Towns and Ruby Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory: loving children, Paul (Kim) of Hampton, VA; Crystal McLean and Grant McLean of Milwaukee, WI; granddaughters, Tori McLean and Carly McLean of Hampton, VA; beloved sister, Jessie (Donald) Jackson of Milwaukee, WI; one brother, Lamar Hall of Milwaukee, WI; sisters- in-law, Frankie Hall and Linda Hall of Milwaukee; Godson Worthington Hortman, Sr. of Milwaukee, WI and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, colleagues, and friends.
