Mrs. Dorothy Odem

August 10, 1937 - February 16, 2022

Dorothy Odem (nee: Brown) was born on August 10, 1937, to the union of David and Katie Brown (nee: Elam) in Covington, Tennessee. She was the third of six children. Dorothy received her formal education in he Tipton County School District in Covington, Tennessee at Frazier high School where she played basketball. Standing at nearly six feet tall and with slim physique, Dorothy and her sisters were known in town for their basketball prowess. One year during high school, three of the Brown girls played on the high school team: Dorothy, Thelma and Cora. One story they like to recant was, "After picking cotton the whole day they didn't have time to walk to the game. Well, a ride 'just showed up' and they headed to the basketball game. When they walked in the gym. the crowd erupted in cheers for the Brown sisters!" Dorothy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and the Brown family were united with St. Luke's Baptist Church in Covington, Tennessee, before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Once in Wisconsin, Dorothy and her family became long-time members of Siloah Lutheran Church. In her leisure, she loved to read, watch sports, and was very much a home body. She was serious about social norms, and liked things to be in order. She had a closet full of fine clothes and fur coats. Dorothy Odem passed away peacefully, completing her earthly journey surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by loving husband, Exel Odem; father, David Brown; mother, Katie Brown; two sisters, Thelma L. Maben, and Retha Mae Brown; and brother. Lawrence T. Brown. She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Ronald Terry, Sylvester Terry, and Darryl (Angelena) Terry (all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin); eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, Cora Pearson, and Wilbert Brown, (both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin); along with a host of other relatives and friends.
