March 20, 1939 - November 8, 2021
Emma Jean Craig was born the fifth of eight children to Jessie J. and Rutha Mae Jeffries on March 20, 1939, in a small community in Tunica County, Mississippi called Banks. Emma accepted Christ at a very early age as did all of her siblings since her parents and grandparents were very devoted and active in Christian Methodist faith. Emma continued her service to the Lord as a member of the St. James United Methodist Church (The New st. James Community Church). Emma received her formal education in Memphis TN. Emma was the mother of one child, Beverly A. Jeffries. In 1957, the family moved to Milwaukee, WI. She was employed by the Milwaukee Urban League as a Project Administrative Assistant and Horizon as a Homecare Companion upon her retirement. Emma was a lay leader and a well-loved congregant at St. James United Methodist Church (The New St. James Community Church, where she also sang in the choir. Emma loved God's Holy Word. She loved reading, preaching, and teaching from it. Emma was an avid bowler and shopper. She owned an impressive collection of high heels and suits. Throughout her life, she loved cheering on her home team the Milwaukee Bucks. Emma adored her family holiday dinners. Her specialties were sweet potato pies, peach cobbler and homemade dressing. She lived a servant's life and modeled a servant's heart. She loved on people with hugs, kisses and smiles. Emma was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Rutha Mae Jeffries; her sister, Mary Bruce; her brothers, Hayes Jeffries, Howard Jeffries, James Jeffries, Morris Jeffries, and Francis Jeffries. Emma departed this life on Monday, November 8; 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving devoted daughter, Beverly A. Jeffries (Bernard Ewing) of Milwaukee, WI; one sister, Pauline Baker of Memphis, TN; two grandchildren, Keyana L. Jeffries and Phillip S. Jeffries; one great grandchild, Phillip S. Jeffries, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends. We wish to acknowledge her niece, Jacquelyn Trice for her loving support. A special thanks, to the doctors and nurses at Froedtert Milwaukee Hospital and Horizon Hospice.
