The mortal life of Esther Elaine Albritton ended at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 5,2022. But, if there is to be an ending, there must be a beginning. This beginning was in Watervalley, Mississippi where Esther, the youngest child, was born to Benjamin and Bessie Pernell. The years between Thursday, January 24, 1929 and Wednesday, January 5,2022 were meaningful and fruitful- for herself and others. ' The early developmental years were spent at the Memphis City Schools, followed by secondary school at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee. She then entered Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. Armed with knowledge, Esther then sought practical experience about business at Helen's of Memphis Exclusive Dress Shop in Memphis, Tennessee where her refinement for attire became prominent. Marrying Leonard McCoy Albritton, Sr. on June 25, 1950, she moved with her groom to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In their union Joni Lynn, Leonard McCoy, Jr., Gina Annette and Reginald Jay were born. Esther was employed with JCP'enney's for thirty-two years and was adorned with noteworthy achievements for her commitment to upholding the standard of the company including perfect attendance and service to the customers. Her engaging personality, deep sense of caring, insight into human needs, and the unique manner by which she sought to help others meet those needs made Esther the extraordinary person that she was. Esther's faith in the principles of God was strong. Her Christianity and religion were deeply rooted in ancestral works and teachings. She was baptized at an early age, her work and commitment never faltered. Esther knew but one way to cope, and that way was the "way of the book:' Faith, Hope and Charity. It was her deep and abiding confidence in these principles which sustained her during the extended battle with one of life's most dreaded maladies. Several of her commitments to the church included the Senior Usher, Missionary Ministry and a devoted Sunday School Class participant. Esther's dedication was steadfast and strong. She was charming and honest with a beautiful spirit, leaving a special legacy. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, Sr, Son, Leonard, Jr., as well as her parents and sisters: Juanita Ferguson, Angeline Powell and Deborah Lane and devoted in-laws Chester, Sr. and Jessie Albritton. To all of these, and to her many other relatives and valued friends, she gave love, concern, compassion and most of all she gave of her indefatigable strength. She will be missed, and her memory will be cherished forever through her legacy of eight grandchildren and ten great -grandchildren.
