Mrs. Idailia J. Hutchins

February 18, 1946 - January 27, 2022

Idalia Jones was born on February 18, 1946 to the union of Theodore R. Jones and Phillis Harrison Jones in Heidelberg, MS. She was the seventh oldest of nine siblings. She was a child of God from birth and remained until her demise. She was first united with the Union Baptist Church at an early age. Once she moved to Milwaukee, WI, she united with Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. After graduating from Southside High School, she attended Mississippi Valley State's Associate Degree nursing program and graduated in May 1968. Then, she moved to Milwaukee, WI where she attended. AI- verno College where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse. In 1969, she began her life's career at St. Luke's Medical Center and retired in 2005. She also worked on the weekends at Salvatorian Heights for years. Salvatorian Heights was small assisted living facility and was an extremely tender part of her career. Even after she retired, she still used her passion to privately take care of the elderly. She truly had a calling to be a nurse. She was a proud member of the Black Nurses Association and won Black Professional of the year. In this association, she helped and taught young and future nurses about the field. She was also a member of the Juneau Fidelity Temple #247, Daughter of the Elks. Idalia met her husband, Bill Hutchins, in 1965 and they dated until 1969 when they wed. They had two beautiful children from their union. However, she helped raise many other children from extended families and around the neighborhood. She fed them all and helped in whatever way she could. Idalia was a sophisticated lady with beauty, class, education, style, and life experience. Although her childhood was terribly poor and difficult, she was determined to make a better life for herself, being the first person in her immediate family to graduate from college. Her siblings and future husband were al- ways there to support her whenever she needed; she had a great support system. And ohhhhh could she sew! Growing up poor, they couldn't buy lots of expensive things, but her mother, Big Mama, could see a picture of a dress and sew it out of a potato sack or whatever material they possessed and they were still able to enjoy high-class fashion with everyone else. She was strong .. She stood up... She was not scared .•.. Grounded .•..•. Mama .....• Idalia Jones was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Wilfred W. Jones (J 1), Theodore R. Jones Jr. (T J), and Charles L. Jones and her oldest sister: Dumpie Lee Ross. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband: Bill Hutchins, 2 sisters: Mary J. (Herb) Hegwood, and Pamela J.
