Mrs. Alene Fambro

Alene (Martin) Fambro of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, age 82, departed this life on Thursday, May 2,2019. She was born May 3, 1936 in Temple Hill, Kentucky, to the late Milford and Minnie (Dillon) Martin, Sr. She was a graduate of Ralph Bunche High School in Glasgow, Kentucky. She accepted Christ at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Glasgow, Kentucky. She later joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she was a long time member of the National Usher and Nurses ministry. She also served on the Senior Ministry as the organizer of group events. Alene was a faithful member until her health failed. She met and married "AJ" John Allen Thomas in Kentucky and together they had one child, Karen (Thomas) Harris. AJ enlisted in the air force and they moved to Detroit, Michigan when he was called to the Korean War. After the death of AJ in 1957, she moved to Danville, Illinois. In 1959, the Ebony Fashion Fair Traveling Show approached her and asked her to join their runway show. She decided not to take that job because she didn't want to leave her young daughter at home for long periods while on the road. She later met JC Caroline and together they had one child, Janice Thomas-Robinson. In 1966, she moved her family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She retired from First Wisconsin Bank in 1992 as an Operations Branch Manager. She came out of retirement and joined the first Best Buy Store in Milwaukee as an Accountant. When the store moved their accounting department to Minnesota, she stayed on as an Appliance Department Supervisor and retired in 1997. Alene loved bowling and joined her first league in Danville, Illinois. After moving to Milwaukee in 1966, she became a member of the black bowling league and bowled until her health failed her. She loved fashion, crocheting, quilting, golf, traveling, shopping, working at the Election Polls in Milwaukee and working with the Milwaukee Explorer and Exposure Project (MEEP). Alene leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Karen (George) Harris, Jr. of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Clifton Martin, Jimmie Rogers Martin, Milford Martin Jr., and Carl Martin; sisters: Anna Owens and Mary Lucy Reed; and daughter, Janice Thomas-Robinson Alene "Granny" was loved and will be missed by ten grandchildren: Natashia Thomas (Milwaukee), Jarrell Harris (Milwaukee), George Harris III (Milwaukee), Marquise Harris (Milwaukee), Antionette "Toni" (Timothy) Steadman (Milwaukee), Lashanda (jevon) Jones (Milwaukee), Karena Thomas (Milwaukee), Krystal Robinson (Milwaukee), Brittany (Courtney) Eison (Menomonee Falls), Alexia Robinson (Milwaukee), and 19 Great-Grandchildren: Torieux Thomas, Nicholas Harris, Nylah Harris, Timara Steadman, Aasiya Harris, Malik Harris, Timothy Steadman Ill, [ackiya Jones, Jeanette Jones, Nivea Harris, Camari Robinson, Kennedi Steadman, Amariyana Robinson, Keegan Steadman, Jordyn Jones, Wyatt Eison, Elijah Allen-Law, Ka'Liyah Robinson, and Mallory Harris. She loved spending time with her family and a host of friends. A special acknowledgement to her Sister-Friend of more than fifty years, Ladora (Dodie) Rabon, Mr. Raymond Levy and all of her extended church family and friends.
