Mrs. Astrid Edith Flowers

Astrid Editha Flowers was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Her parents were the late James and Mary Moorhead. Her father moved the family to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands when she was two years old. Astrid was raised as a member of the Moravian Church and has been active in church since she was a child. She fondly remembers helping her father and mother count the offering and rolling the coins in coin holders on Sunday morning after church service. Astrid came to Wisconsin to attend Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Marketing. She later obtained her MBA from Cardinal Stritch University in 2004. Astrid married Victor Flowers on June 25, 1983 in Milwaukee, WI. They were happily married for 33 years. The couple have three children. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, modeling, decorating, and spending time with her family. In the days leading up to her passing, she expressed how happy and blessed she felt to have such a loving family by her side. She fondly shared her appreciation for the attentiveness, patience, love and strength that her husband displayed as he cared for her during her illness. Astrid was employed by State Farm Insurance Company for the past 30 years. She was a Property Claim Team Manager. She managed the property claims division of State Farm for the southern half of the state of Wisconsin. She also served on two boards on behalf of State Farm, the Wisconsin Insurance Plan and the Community Insurance Information Center. In December, 1982, Astrid joined Calvary Baptist Church where she was an active member. She served as both the Secretary and President of the American Baptist Women's Ministry and Co-Chair of the Women's Day Committee. She served as the Church Clerk, chairperson of the New Members Ministry and Treasurer of the Bertha Matthews Circle. She was also a member of the "Wheel In The Middle Of The Wheel" Praise Dance Ministry, attended the Contemporary Sunday School class and Bible Study. She was named Honored Mother in 2012 and was recognized for her excellence in Administrative Leadership and Service during Calvary's 2017 Women's Day Celebration. Astrid's favorite scripture is Psalm 121-"1 lift up my eyes to the hills where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth". She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Rosalin Carter-Todman. Astrid is survived by her husband, Victor Flowers; their son, Jason Flowers, daughters Alexandria Flowers, Danielle (Bruce) Riley; brothers Vernon Carter and James (Pattie) Moorhead, [r., sister, Laura K. (Ann) Moorhead; sisters-in-law; Frances (jeffrey) Norris-Johnson and Arthereen Gerry) Lockhart; brothers-in-law; Arthur (Clover) Flowers; Curtis (Bridget) Flowers; four grandchildren, Jeneaya Johnson, Justice Riley, [ordyn Riley, and Alexus Green and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
