Ms. Bertha Mae Langdon

We gather here today, on March 19th, 2025, at the Northwest Funeral Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to honor and celebrate the life of a woman whose love, wisdom, and spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her. We come together in mourning, yes, but also in profound gratitude for the remarkable legacy left by Bertha Mae Langdon-a devoted mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, a cherished sister, and an educator whose influence will endure through generations. Bertha was raised on a foundation built by faith, family, and the pursuit of knowledge. She carried these values with her as she embarked on a path of lifelong learning at Lane College, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Marquette University. Through these years, she laid the groundwork for a distinguished career, one that would span over 35 years as a dedicated educator within Milwaukee Public Schools. It was in the classroom where her heart shone brightest-shaping young minds, nurturing their potential, and instilling not only knowledge but the unwavering belief that they could reach for the stars. Her work was never just about teaching facts; it was about igniting hope, building confidence, and fostering dreams. Bertha's faith was the anchor in her life, guiding her through all seasons with a quiet strength and a boundless capacity for love. As a devoted member of Macedonia Church, she found both strength and purpose in her community, living her faith daily through acts of kindness, patience, and an unwavering love for all who crossed her path. Her presence in this world was a reflection of the grace she held within-a grace that will continue to echo through the lives she touched. At the heart of Bertha's world was her family. She was a mother to her beloved son, Malcolm, whose joy and happiness were her greatest treasures. She was a grandmother to Tasha, Maleya, and Malcom Jr., and a great-grandmother to little Hezekiah, a role she held with an immeasurable sense of pride and deep, abiding love. Her family was her sanctuary, and they were her constant source of joy, her reason to smile every day. Though Bertha has been called home, leaving us all with an aching sense ofloss, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who went before her-her parents, John and Minnie Middlebrook, and her dear siblings Carrie Gunn, Thopolis, Billy Carliss, and Carey Middlebrook. She now rests in their embrace, in the loving arms of those she cherished and who cherished her. The love she shared with them transcends time, and it is this love that we carry forward in our hearts. As we gather today, we mourn the loss of her physical presence, but we are reminded that her light will never fade. Bertha Mae Langdon lived a life filled with grace, purpose, arid immeasurable love. She has run her race with dignity and courage, leaving an indelible mark on the world. Her legacy lives on, not only in the family she adored but in the countless lives she shaped with her wisdom, her kindness, and her unshakeable belief in the power of education and love. Rest in peace, Bertha. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, and your memory will live on forever.
