Mrs. Bertha Mae Mounger

Bertha Mae Mounger was born on May 2 , 1934 to ~he union of Willie and Annie Mae Lee in Clinton, MS. But according to Bertha, her mother old her that her birthday was on May 1 so she and he family always celebrated her birthday on May 1. It wasn't until Bertha ordered her birth certificate to apply 'or social security that she discovered that her birthday she was actually May 20! But for 65 years, she and her family celebrate her birthday on May 1. Bertha received her formal education at Lowe Glove Elementary School in Clinton, MS and Lanelligh School in Jackson, MS. Bertha Mae Mounger accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at 12 years of age at St. Mark's Baptist Church in Clinton, MS. On February 13, 1953, Bertha Mae Lee was united in holy matrimony with Roscoe Mounger in Clinton, MS. Their union was blessed with seven children. Bertha was employed at Concordia College as a cherished cook who fed the souls of students and staff, as well as their bodies, for 28 years. In Bertha's leisure she enjoyed teaching Sunday school, traveling, reading and studying the Bible. She enjoyed spending time with her family, writing Christmas letters and cooking for her family and friends as this was part of her "love language". Bertha also loved to sit in the kitchen and collect sunflowers, lighthouses and roosters. The most important role she played was teaching all of her family to "Love one another" and to love God. This is the legacy she leaves behind to be carried on by the succeeding generations. Bertha Mae Mounger departed this life on October 15, 2020. She was receded in death by her parents Willie Nelson Lee, Sr. and Annie Mae Lee; two sisters, Flora Seefeldt and Ethel Williams, and one brother, Willie Nelson Lee Jr. Bertha leaves to cherish her loving memory in Milwaukee: Loving husband and life partner, Roscoe Mounger; children: Don (Linda) Mounger; Ricky Mounger; Fredrick Mounger (Grand Prairie, TX); Adwin Mounger; Cynthia Mounger; Dale Mounger; Shawn Mounger; grand-children: Kelly Mounger (Grand Prairie, TX); Terrance (LaSandra) Mounger (Slidell, LA); Ouincee Washington; Oiana Holder; Jamele Mounger; Loni Mounger; Nakisha Mounger; Darell Mounger; lIish Mounger; Issaya McClendon; Daveon Wilkins and Shazzear Mounger. Bertha also leaves behind a legacy of 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition, Bertha leaves behind to cherish her memory three sisters; Posey (Alfred) Hudnall (Oakland, CA), Deborah (Greg) Eskridge; Evelyn Lee; two brothers, James Lee; Kenny (Verice) Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
