Mrs. Dorothy Earl Johnson

Dorothy Earl Johnson was born on April 19, 1929 to the union of Ollie and Dovie Haralson in Lena, Mississippi. Dorothy attended and received her formal education within the Lena, Mississippi school system. Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior at age twelve at Harmony Baptist in Lena, Mississippi. Dorothy E. Haralson was united in holy matrimony with I.W. Johnson on August 11, 1946 in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. Their union was blessed with eleven children. She was employed by Milwaukee County as a Food Service Worker until her retirement in 1990. In her leisure, Dorothy enjoyed watching GSpan and other political commentary shows. She also enjoyed attending theater productions, especially musicals and listening to all genres of music. She loved to travel and looked forward to attending annual family reunions held in various states. As a member of her bible study class at her residence Garden Place, she was the designated scripture reader. She was also the Wisconsin State Captain for her family's reunion committee. Dorothy, who was also affectionately known as Mandy, filled the days of her life with uncountable instances of goodness, kindness and unconditional love and respect to everyone that she met, family, friends and yes even strangers. Two weeks ago she was described by one of her granddaughters as wise, intelligent, and witty as they engaged in a friendly discussion on politics. Discussing politics was one of her greatest passions and she stayed abreast of current affairs and always wanted to participate in the process. Dorothy was adamant about voting and did so in the April fifth Wisconsin primary election of this year. She was an outstanding and informative armchair political analyst. She was an excellent cook and the family was always delighted when she made sweet potato pies, pound cakes and the best dressing ever. Dorothy liked her life, and doing things that enhanced it like, getting her hair done, shopping and going out to eat. When not watching GSpan or reading her daily newspaper, she loved watching "her soap operas", and sports. Dorothy had a keen sense of fashion and was an impeccable dresser. She impacted a lot of people and we are all the better for having had her pass through our lives. In her memory let's resolve to pay it forward and do the same. Every kind word, deed, or memory she gave to you, do the same for someone else. That is the message she left for her family and we pass it forward to you in her memory. Words come easily and positively when thinking of this beautiful and wonderful soul, but remember these two words when you think of her, "Irreplaceable and Unforgettable." Dorothy Earl Johnson departed this life on Saturday April 16, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, I.W. Johnson; parents, Ollie and Dovie Haralson; daughter, Barbara Johnson; two grandchildren, Kevin Johnson and Monica Bland; one great-great-grandson, Ki Marion Redmond; three sisters, Essie Stallworth, Christine Shepherd and Mattie Greer; and four brothers, Houston Haralson, Herbert Haralson, Clifton Haralson and Howard Haralson. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Erma Johnson, Margie Johnson, Donna Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Sharon (Allen) Bland, Kirk (Doris) Johnson, Lynn Phillips, Vincent (jamie) Johnson, David (Angela) Johnson and Deonysius (Deanna) Johnson; three brothers; three sisters; thirty grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
