Mrs. Glennie V. Griffin-Wade

Glennie V. Griffin-Wade was born on July 16, 1935 to the union of Deacon Thomas Latiker and Callie (Rocket) Latiker in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Glennie received her formal education at Greer High School in Thomastown, Mississippi. She furthered her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree. She continued her education at MATC earning her degree as a Registered Nurse. Glennie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the finance committee. Glennie V. Latiker was united in holy matrimony with James E. Griffin on October 1, 1955 in Milwaukee, WI until his death in 1981. Their union was blessed with four children. Several years later, her daughter, Sherry, while working on the Milwaukee Police Department, knowing both their personalities, brought the two of them together. Glennie was united in holy matrimony to Sgt. William Wade on April 28, 1990 where they found everlasting love. Glennie was employed by Union Prescription Center as a pharmacy assistant for 18 years. After receiving her nursing degree, she worked at Milwaukee County Mental Health Hospital for seven years, and Milwaukee County and Froedtert Hospital for 20 years in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU). She served as a preceptor for new ICCU nurses on the unit. She mentored many graduate nurses to help them pass their nursing state board exam known as the NCLEX. After retirement, Glennie worked at Community Memorial Hospital as a cardiac RN and at a nursing home as a RN supervisor. Glennie always had an adventurous spirit. Having an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, afforded her the opportunity to pursue a job with Bell Ambulance, as a cardiac transport nurse. In this role, Glennie was able to jet across the country transporting private cardiac patients by Leer jet. Glennie was an avid shopper, quick witted, fun-loving and very head-strong. She was involved in the Civil Rights movement, including marching across the 16th Street viaduct with her children and Father James Groppi. Her children will forever remember her tough love and famously saying, "Stiffen up your spine, I didn't raise no quitters". Glennie has been an active participant with the Milwaukee Chapter of the Black Nurse's Association. Glennie departed this life peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday November 25, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Callie Latiker, first husband, James E. Griffin, two brothers, Thomas Latiker Jr., and Edward Latiker, She leaves to cherish her memory; loving husband, William E. Wade, her two sons, James Tesley Griffin, Jeffery Stewart Griffin (Helen), two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Allen (Crawford-deceased), Cheryl "Sherry" Switzer (Marcus), stepchildren; William Wade Ir., (Regina), Gail Wynn (Thomas), Quinn Wade (Patience) and Nicole Wade. Glennie leaves behind four sisters, Hattie Bright, Marjorie Royston, Velma Ford and Josie Johnson-Rose. Three brothers, Joe Latiker, James Latiker and Michael Latiker, Glennie was lovingly called "Nanny", a name chosen by her oldest granddaughter, Kisha. Glennie leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
