Mr. Joseph Nelson

Joseph “Joe” Nelson was born on November 21, 1933, to the union of David and Ever B. Nelson in Fordyce, Arkansas. Joe received his formal education at Dallas County Training School. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a God-fearing man. On June 4, 1955, Joseph Nelson married the woman of his life, Bernice “Bonnie” Paskel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They shared 63 years of marriage full of love, devotion, laughter, and companionship. Joe would say, “Just make your momma happy, then I am happy.” Joe was a veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted on October 26, 1953, and was honorably discharged on October 25, 1955. He was employed at Globe-Union (Johnson Controls, Inc. in the Battery Department for 30 years. In his leisure time, he loved fishing, enjoyed walking, and truly loved gathering with family and friends. He would fish all day if he could, and when done, he’d clean the fish and bring them to you! Joe walked regularly, but the only thing that kept him from walking with his buddies is when he would say, “It’s just too cold.” From family reunions, to sitting down with you in a one-on-one conversation, meant everything to Joe. You had his attention and he had yours. He shared wisdom and life experiences, but most importantly, he was there to support you. Joseph “Joe” Nelson departed this life on January 16th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ever B. Nelson; wife, Bernice Nelson; son, Danny Joe Nelson; brothers, Charles Nelson and Benjamin Nelson; sister, Leslie Vaughn; brothers-in-law, James Currie and David Vaughn; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nelson, Zora Nelson, and Mary Nelson. He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Joseph Nelson, Jr. (Indianapolis, Indiana); Steven Nelson (Milwaukee, Wisconsin); two daughters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brenda Nelson and Joan Nelson; four grandchildren, Joseph Nelson III , Jennifer Nelson, Carla Nelson, and Carlo (Valencia) Nelson; six great-grandchildren, Javon Flinn-Nelson, Ariel Strozier, Brendan Nelson, Jayson Nelson, Emori Grace Nelson, and Aiden Nelson; sister, Rheba (Nadine) Currie; brother, Waymon Nelson; brother-in-law, Travis (Sheila) Paskel; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Darlene Williams, Norma Ruth Gilbert, Barbara Harris and Darlene Paskel; and a host of loving relatives and dear friends.
