Mrs. Josie Marie Stennis

Josie was born October 17th, 1946 to Delsa and LQ Davis in Rossville, Tennessee. Josie lived in Oakland Tennessee, with her grandmother Debra Swift during her early childhood where she enjoyed country living and spending summers with her favorite cousins Sally, Reola and Delsielean. She would later move with her mother to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During her teenage years and that is where her love for city life began. She grew up the oldest of a loving family. Early on she began working in her family's grocery store on 11th and Burleigh and spent most of her time helping to raise all of her sisters and brother. Josie continued her education after graduating from Rufus King High School at the University of Milwaukee Wisconsin, In adulthood, Josie went to work for Schlitz Brewery and was promoted and transferred to Los Angeles California with her only son Antonyo Davis. She also worked at the LAX airport and bar tending on the side for fun. Josie and her son lived in LA for many years before moving back to Milwaukee to raise her loving daughter Sherri Sade Stennis. In Milwaukee, Josie worked at Bond's Foods on 20th and Clark and in retail at stores like Boston Department Store and Walgreens Drug Store. She took pride in raising her family to be organized, timely and self-sufficient. In her free time, Josie enjoyed knitting and even designing clothing for herself as a hobby, Her presence will be most remembered at family gatherings where she would love to play card games. Josie loved reading the most of all of her pastimes and would encourage everyone around her to read anything they could. She also found joy in keepsakes, she was known to have tons of family photos and memorabilia from important events from everyone's precious moments. Although Josie lived her later life out in Milwaukee Wisconsin, she loved the city of Los Angeles as she moved back and forth many times and also moved some family members with her to enjoy the west-coast lifestyle. living in LA was a proud time in Josie's life and had become an embedded part of her personality, often she would recall many memories from her time there with songs like "look at California" by one of her favorite bands Maze and Frankie Beverly. Josie was known to be outspoken, fun loving and full of life. Her love for her music, dancing and family gatherings was not overshadowed by her love for the lord as her daughter Sherri recalls her favorite gospel songs and memories of her time spent at Wandering Home Missionary Baptist Church. On July 13th, 2022, Josie departed this earthy life for heavens doors leaving to cherish her loving memory her son Antonyo Davis (Los Angeles, California), Sherri Sade Stennis (Milwaukee, WI), Sisters Ruth Bond, Maxine Bond, Deon Bond, Sherri Bond and brothers Michael Bond, Earl (Louise) Thompson (Chicago, Illinois) and Alfred Jordan (Milwaukee, WI). She will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Delsa and Mack Bond and Father LQ Davis.
