Ms. Katie J. Jones

KATI E MAE JENKINS was born on January 30,1932 to the union of Mr. Felix and Mrs. Cottie Jenkins in Burkeville, Alabama. Katie, professed her life to the Lord at a very early age. Her family church was Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Burkeville, Alabama. Katie attended Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama where she graduated and matriculated to her beloved Alabama State University (ASU). She graduated with her BA degree in Elementary Education in 1956. She completed her student teaching in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1957 she married the love of her life James A.Jones of Hayneville, Alabama. After marrying James they migrated North to Milwaukee, WI. in 1959. From this wedded union, 3 children where born: Daryl, Carla, and Karen. Katie was married to James for 35 years until his death in 1993- Katie worked as a substitute teacher at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) for 3 years while beginning a family and later became a full-time teacher at (MPS) in 1966. Over the years she worked at several elementary schools, McKinley, 5th Street, and OliverWendal1 Holmes, where she retired in 1995. During her career at (MPS) she taught grades 1-3. She enjoyed working with younger children. Katie ended each day by giving a big hug to her students upon them leaving the classroom. Katie retired from (MPS) with 32 years of service. She was honored and awarded in 2010 as one of the Milwaukee Public Schools, Historic African America n Retired Educators. Katie and James were members of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church of Milwaukee prior to their membership at Community Baptist Church. Katie along with her husband James A. Jones were valiant founding members of Community Baptist Church of Greater Milwaukee (CBCGM), where they both graciously served the church. Katie was a Deaconess, served on the scholarship committee, and various programs and attended Sunday School throughout her life and inception of (CBCGM). For many years Katie presided as the Secretary and was very active in her cherished Alma-mater, Alabama State University (ASU), local Milwaukee Alumni Chapter. She was also a lifetime member of the NationaI Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Before and after retiring, Katie enjoyed traveling to where the air planes and ships would take her. After retirement we were blessed to have a loving mother that cooked lunch and dinner daily for her adult children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining and hosting family, friends, and church family for any event. Katie loved to cook, if you haven't had any of her food you missed out! No one ca n ever forget her highly requested "Katie's Million Dollar Pie" if you don't know,you better ask somebody! Such rich decadence, all you needed was a sliver that would melt in your mouth. Katie also enjoyed crafting, she made bath towel decor sets and gifted them to many. Katie J. Jones departed this life before the rising of the sun on Sunday, August 13, 2023. She will be remembered as a loving, God fearing, soft spoken woman, who was a kind-hearted Sister, Wife, Aunt, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend that always thought of others and did what she could in her special way. Katie was proceeded in death by: Parents, Felix and Cottie Jenkins; Husband: James A. Jones; Brother and Sister in-Laws: Joseph Jenkins: Otis Jenkins (Nellie); Clara Jenkins; 3 Brother In-Laws and Sister In-Laws: Ulysses Jones (Ann), Willie Jones (Ora); Lee Jones (Betty); Enos Jones Jr. (Amanda). Her memory will be treasured by: Son, Daryl J. Jones (Jamie) of GA; 2 Daughters: Carla Jones-Isabell (Wilbur), Karen Jones-Singleton (Vernon) both of WI; Daughter In-Law: Dyonna "Diane" Jones of GA; 3 Brothers: Adolph Jenkins, Jesse Jenkins (Doris) both of AL, Everette Jenkins (Mildred) of WI; 2 Sister In-Laws: Eula Pearl Jenkins of LA, Annie Kitt of FL; 3 Grandchildren: Jazmine Glover (Stefon) of GA, Car+James Isabell, Cimone Isabell both of WI; 3 Goddaughters: Marquita, Monica, and Melaina and all of her loving Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
