Mrs. Leona Winifred Holmes

Leona Winifred Holmes was born April 22, 1929 to the union of Herbert Lee Hood and Esther Lee Hood in Turrell, Arkansas. Leona W. Holmes received her formal education in the Turrell, Arkansas school system. She obtained her teaching degree at the University of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Leona accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was united with Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Turrell, Arkansas where she served as a dedicated member. In 1958, Leona later moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served generously for over 50 years. Leona Winifred Hood was united in holy matrimony with Theodus Holmes on June 10, 1950 in Marion, Arkansas. Their union was blessed with two children, a daughter and a son, Theodus F. Holmes, "Pap". Leona worked at Mikey's Linen until she began her professional career at the Milwaukee County hospital as a certified nursing assistant. Loved by her patients and well respected by her co-workers. Leona was voted in as a company union stewart After 30 years of service, Leona retired from the hospital only to re-enter the workforce five additional years as a sales representative in the children' s department of Boston Store. In her leisure, Leona enjoyed socializing with family, friends, gardening, cooking, bowling, shopping with her sister, knitting, and crocheting. She enjoyed watching basketball, tennis and golf. Leona loved being around her family, especially her sister; Helen whom she made sure she spoke to everyday since a young age. Leona especially loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leona Winifred Holmes departed this life on March 31, 2018. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years; Theodus "Ted " Holmes, her infant daughter, her mother; Esther Le Hood, her father, Reverend Lee Herbert Hood, her brother; Frederick Lee Hood and many other cherished family members. She leaves to cherish her son; Theodus F. Holmes (Brenda) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her three grandchildren; Tasha Orr-Holmes, Terrance Brelove and Troney (LeKeish) Holmes, five great-grandchildren; Kennedy S. Holmes, Kelsey S. Holmes, Tyler F.T. Williams, Karter S. Holmes and Nico Kaz Orr, her sisters; Helen Mayo of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Tamara (Kenneth) Hood-Cross of West Memphis, Arkansas, step-mother; Evelyn Hood of West Memphis, Arkansas, sister-in-law; Victoria Cox, brother-in-law; Samuel (Thelma) Holmes of Little Rock, Arkansas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and endearing friends.
