Melvin Thomas Sr.

Melvin Thomas Sr. was born on October 20, 1924 to the union of Enos Roland Thomas and Bessie Nilene Pearson in Cotulla,Texas. Melvin Thomas Sr. received his formal education at Sojourner Truth Academy in San Antonio.Texas. Like many young men at that time, Melvin had to cut his formal education short to go to work and help provide for the family before Joining the Army. Melvin Thomas Sr. received Jesus as Savior and was baptized into Christ at an early age. On May 4th, 1955, Melvin Thomas Sr. was united in holy matrimony with Ora Catherine Smith in Lordsburg, New Mexico. To this union 6 children were born. Melvin jr., Melanie Ann (deceased), Sheila Denise (deceased), Katrina Youngblood, Nancy Lynn Thomas, and Marlette Smith. In 1972 in San Antonio TX, While dining at "Little Bar,B,Que" Melvin Sr. spotted a cute little waitress who would become his soulmate and the love of his life for the rest of his life, Ms. Jimmie Dell Calloway. Melvin became father and friend to her 3 boys, Tommy, James, and Edward. They proudly "Color Him Father, and Color Him Love". On March 10th, 2012, Melvin Sr. and Jimmie Dell celebrated 45 years of living, laughing and loving, together, "till death did them part". Melvin Thomas Sr. enlisted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1947. Melvin Sr. was a recipient of the WWlI Victory Medal. Melvin Sr. was employed by Charlie Case Tire company and Hawkinson Tire Service before his retirement and-rriove to Milwaukee. In his leisure, he enjoyed a good game of dominoes, cards, a cold beer, good food, and being with family and friends. Melvin Thomas Sr. departed this life on July 18th, 2012. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Melanie Ann and Shiela Denise; mother, Bessie N. Thomas; father, Enos R. Thomas; three brothers, Marvin (twin brother), Roland Thomas and Moses Thomas; two sister, Clara Beatrice Taylor Ross and Eula Mae Wright. He leaves to cherish his memory; his soul-mate of 45 years, Jimmie Dell Calloway Thomas; 4 sons , Melvin [r., (Cathy) of Escondido, CA, Tommy (Michelle) Calloway, James (Teresa) Calloway and Edward (Vicky) Calloway, of Milwaukee, WI; 3 daughters, Nancy Thomas of Phoenix I\l, Katrina Youngblood and Marlette Smith, 'of Sacramento CA; 2 brothers, Mack Thomas (San Antonio, TX) and Alton J. Thomas (Tucson, I\l) and a tribe of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren along with a host of relatives.
