Ms. Merian Marie Lipsey

A woman of faith, virtue, vision and charity, our beloved Merian Lipsey or "Big Mil!" as we knew her, passed on to eternal life March 26, 2023, in her home while surrounded by her family in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Merian M. Lipsey (Mill) was born on October 15, 1949, in Grand Bay, AL, to the union of Isaac and Margaret Bowie. Merian attended and graduated from Elmo High School in 1968. Merian would then relocate to Milwaukee WI, where she met the love of her life, Willie James Lipsey Sr. Willie and Merian married on July 7, 1973. Together they raised their children to be in fear of the Lord, to be great citizens and to love and cherish their family. Merian was a dedicated worker at Marquette University where she loved to meet and service staff and students. After working in the service field of Marquette University, Merian served the later part of her career caring for adults at Laurel Oaks Elderly Care. Early in age, Merian started her walk with God beginning at Little Rock AME Church located in Grand Bay, Alabama. After relocating to Milwaukee, WI, she would become a member of Christian Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, where she served God's people for over 40 years. She later joined Evangel Assembly of God prior to her last venture to Pascagoula, MS. Merian often shared her testimony of God coming to her in a vision letting her know that she was his bride. She loved the lord and was a woman of strength, humility, and a pure heart. A virtuous woman who loved Gods word and governed her life according to it. Merian had one of the most beautiful smiles you could ever see. Her presence would illuminate the darkest rooms. Merian lived life to the fullest and filled her time with the things and the people she loved most: her family, church, cooking, dancing, laughing, and reading the word of God. Merian loved talking and encouraging others. Not a day went by without her sharing the good news or encouraging someone else to hang on to God's love and kindness. Her life's journey is a testament of the faithful walk with Christ that Merian Lipsey lived all the days of her life. Merian was proceeded in death by her husband Willie James Lipsey Sr., her parents, Isaac and Margret Bowie; her two sons, Andre Previn Bowie (Pokey), and Willie James Lipsey Jr. (Coo); her 3 brothers, Charles Bowie, Shelton Peyton, and Lonnie Bowie. Merian leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughters Erika Elayne Bowie (Layne); Lisa Tyson; Mary Jean Williams (Sheldon) ; her sons, James Lipsey (Portia Lipsey), her"Baby Boy" Jere L. Lipsey (Rizzy), and David Warren; her brothers, Wilburt Peyton (Pee-Wee) Clifford Bowie (Zet Bowie); her sister, Bobbye Rose Bowie; her Godchildren, Cornell Stallworth Kewanna Rhodes( Joseph Rhodes) and Angie Ellis; her bonus daughter, Terry Stallworth (Sally), 14 beautiful grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren ,nieces. nephews, family and friends. Merian wanted to recognize a few that held a special place in her heart, her sister- friend Evelyn Mosquito, Morgan Banks, Kelvin Lindsay II (KJ) Andretta Jackson (Von), her 2 aunts Robin Brown (Lu-Lu) and Phyllis Peyton.
