Mrs. Narciss Haskins

Mother Narciss Haskins was born on December 18, 1919, to Fred and Gertrude Brame in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Narciss was the eighth of eight children born to this union. She attended Public School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and accepted Christ at an early age. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in the mid 1930's. On October 10, 1938, Narciss married Isaac Haskins, sr., and to this union six children were born. Narciss and Isaac moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 1950's and she became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. In August 1995, Narciss joined Christ The King Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John W. McVicker, Sr. where she was a devoted member of the Senior Mother's Ministry. Known as the "Hat Diva" Narciss could wear a hat like a professional model. She was a homemaker and an excellent cook. Narciss was a funny, comedic woman who intelligently expressed words that kept all who knew her laughing. She developed a passion for quilting as a child and loved her Gospel Hymns, yet, she enjoyed playing the Blues too. Her memory was remarkable, especially with numbers. Narciss was a strategic checkers player and she thoroughly enjoyed bragging if she beat you when playing Spades or Bid Whist. Narciss never learned how to drive a car, but she always knew how to reach any destination, however, she could be a nerve wreaking back seat driver who never took her eyes off the road. Narciss had a heart of gold, and would give you her last dime. She could be compassionate and tender, but she could also issue a stern rebuke if necessary. Narciss loved her family and her church dearly and will truly be missed by all who knew her. Narciss was preceded in death by her loving husband, Isaac Haskins, Sr. and four of her children; sons, Robert William Haskins, Frank Albert Haskins, and Isaac Haskins, Jr. and a daughter; Flossie Earlene Haskins. On Sunday May 26, 2013, Narciss transitioned from labor to reward. Among the many loved ones that Narciss leaves behind are her devoted daughters, Clarice (Victor) Smith and Charlene Hardin; Fourteen grand-children; thirty-four great grand-children and twenty-nine great great grand-children; a special cousin and friend, Walter Kendrick and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
