Mrs. Sadie Cleola Carter

If you ever heard the phrases "Is a Fat Bear Skinny or I gotta put my face on" you may have heard it from Sadie. Those were two of her favorite sayings among many. Sadie would light up a room with her amazing smile and warm the hearts of anyone she met. Sadie Cleola Carter, this truly amazing women, at 81 years old passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on May 22, 2016. She was the youngest of two born to the late Will Arthur Wheat, Sr. and Sadie Cleola Wheat and now has reunited with her parents and brother, Will Arthur Wheat, Jr. Known for her ease in frequent conversation, even with total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of her shyness as a youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and caring demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter and unwavering faith in God will never be forgotten. Sweet Sadie graduated from Doyle High School in 1953. She also was taught to play the piano through the direction of her aunt, Mrs. Ettalene Wilson. When she was a young adult, she married Clarence Benson, that union was blessed with two daughters. Sadie was later united in holy matrimony with Nearlin Carter Jr. on April 25, 1970 in Oceanside, California. Married for 46 years, Sadie and Nearlin raised their five children. Sadie committed her life to God in 1981. From that moment she was "souled out" for Jesus and dedicated to serving the Lord. She served as a leader of the Missionettes - Young Lady Christian Leaders. She was a member of the adult choir. She also enjoyed cooking for the church and helping out in other church activities. Sadie is a lover of gospel music. Some of her favorite artists were Bebe and Cece Winans, Fred Hammond, Tremaine and Walter Hawkins, and Kirk Franklin. Sadie and her grandson Sean loved "I'm Going Up Yonder" and she loved it even more when, as a child, he sung it to her. She was a loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend. She lived her life to the fullest. With a real zest for life, Sadie loved to dance, cook, write, read, pray, bowl, play games/cards, especially with her Grandchildren, chat with friends and family, and travel...just to name a few. She leaves to cherish: her husband, Nearlin Carter Jr, three daughters, Gwendolyn Jackson (Daniel), Etta Carter and Tracey (Melvin) Carter; two sons, Nearlin Carter III (Patty) and Kevin Carter; eight grandchildren, Kiley Demery, Johnny Middleton, Monique Jackson, Marcel Jackson, Mendell Jackson, Sean Whittington, James Woods, and Kevin Carter Jr, five great-grandchildren, Kayla Demery, Kiley Demery, Kiante Jackson, Kamari Sanchez and Amaya Demery and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
