Ms. Sarah Bell Loggins

Sarah Bell Loggins was born on February 21, 1935, to the union of Clarence and Louise Stewart in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the only child born to this union. When Sarah was 5 months old, Louise married Jeff M. Russell Sr., and to that union, ten children were born. Sarah began her formal education within the Memphis Public School system, then relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she furthered her education. She earned her high school diploma and additional training from Milwaukee Area Technical College. Sarah accepted Christ at an early age and attended Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. She later united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI. Here, she was a member for 27 years and served in the music ministry, Gospel Choir, until her health would no longer allow her to attend services. After a long, loving courtship, on December 11, 1996, Sarah united in holy matrimony with Oscar “Jesse” Loggins in Waukegan, IL. Sarah was the proud mother of four sons, Calvin, Ronald, Harold, and Phil, reared by her former husband, Annias Wright Jr. Early on in Sarah’s career, she worked for Oster Corporation as an assembly production worker. After furthering her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College, she joined Milwaukee County Mental Health Division as a unit clerk for 18 years until her retirement in 1990. She also served as a guardian for numerous adults in need for 27 years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Sarah joined the Roselette Dancers at the Clinton & Bernice Rose Senior Center and danced in many festivals and other events in Milwaukee Above all, Sarah loved spending time with family. For family gatherings, she displayed her culinary skills as the designated “fish fryer”. She especially enjoyed laughing, watching movies, and sharing stories and meals at the monthly “Sister Night” with her sisters. In 1980, Sarah became a member of the Order of Eastern Star under the Supreme Grand Chapter of America, Inc. She served as a member of the Ruth Chapter 364 along with many of her sisters, which gave her great joy. Sarah later became a Worthy Matron of Ruth Chapter 364 until her health would no longer allow her to continue to perform her duties. Sarah Bell Loggins departed this life on February 7, 2025, 14 days before her 90th birthday. She was the eldest child and was preceded in death by her: husband, Oscar “Jesse” Loggins; mother, Louise E. Russell; father, Jeff M. Russell Sr.; siblings, Berniece Russell and Jeff M. Russell Jr., affectionately known as “Brother”; brothers-in-law, John W. Ogan and Kenneth Trotman; nieces, Octavia Russell and Denise Russell; nephew, Gerald Seay; and one great-niece, Tamika Russell. She leaves to cherish her memory: 4 sons, Calvin (Nadia) Stewart Sr. of Killeen, TX, Ronald Wright, Harold Wright, and Phil Wright of Milwaukee, WI; 4 sisters, Blanche L. Ogan of Milwaukee, WI, Addie L. Trotman of Lombard, IL, Shirley A. (Samuel) Perkins of Milwaukee, WI, and Sammie J. Todd of Lauderhill, FL; 4 brothers, Robert Russell of Milwaukee, WI, Dr. LaFayette (JoAnn) Russell of Chicago Heights, IL, Michael Russell, and Timothy Russell of Memphis, TN; daughter in-law, Kathy Blaine; childhood friend, Betty Coleman; 5 grandchildren, Sarah Aikens, Calvin Stewart Jr., Carmela Carter, Devante Stewart, and Joshua Stewart; 7 great-grandchildren and host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
