Ms. Shirley Delores Peavie

On Monday, August 20,2018, Shirley went home to be with her heavenly father. Shirley Delores Peavie was born April 20, 1950, to Norman James and Myrtis C. (Burks) Peavie. She was the eldest of four children. Shirley had three younger brothers whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her loving father Norman Peavie and dear brothers, Joe Lavone Peavie and Roger Peavie. Shirley was educated in the Milwaukee Public School System. She graduated from Rufus King High School and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. However, Shirley chose to work for the City of Milwaukee where she was an employee for more than 38 years. She was very strong in her religious faith. Shirley's Christian walk began at Greater Galilee Baptist Church as a youth. In 1979, she was united with New Covenant Baptist Church, where she remained until her passing Shirley was a very faithful and active member of New Covenant Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of many ministries at New Covenant. She served as Sunday School Superintendent for more than 10 years until her passing. She was the Black History Chairperson, a member of the Deborah Circle, Scholarship Ministry, Women's Ministry, Birthday Ministry, NCBC Newsletter Ministry and several other ministries. She worked untiringly for the ministries in which she was involved. Over the years she traveled to many church conventions and conferences to strengthen her biblical knowledge. Shirley was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years and touched the lives of girls of all ages. Shirley taught a charm school at New Covenant to several young girls. Her one unfulfilled dream was to open and operate a Charm School. Some of her favorite pastimes were watching HGTV, The Food Network and reading Women's World magazines. She loved going out to eat or just being with family and friends. She loved baking cookies for our family gatherings at Christmas. Shirley was known for her sophistication and her bright smile. She was very photogenic and always ready with her mirror and red lipstick. Shirley was a strong, independent, classy lady with a zest for life. She was a loyal and trusted friend to many. To know her was to love her. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: her loving mother, Myrtis C. (Burks) Peavie of Walnut Grove, MS, her brother, Larry Peavie of Jackson, MS, one uncle, Mr. J.B. (Laura) Burks of Walnut Grove, MS, two sister-in-laws, Dora Peavie, Milwaukee, WI and Cora Peavie of Walnut Grove, MS, nieces, Natalie (Kevin) Martin of Little Elm, TX, Lesle Joi Peavie, Symona Jade Peavie, Khalia Janay Peavie and Autumn Journee Peavie all of Walnut Grove, MS, one nephew, Jovon Peavie of Milwaukee, WI and five great nieces, many cousins, special cousin, Brenda Peavie and other extended family and very close friends.
