Mrs. Verlee Fowler

Verlee Fowler was born July 20, 1930, in Nesbitt: Mississippi. She grew up in Bethlehem Baptist Church. Verlee received her early education within the Nesbitt School System. Relocating with her family to Memphis, Tennessee, she later attended Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating, Veri tried her hand at many different professions, some of which included independent Avon sales, sewing, and hairdressing to name a few. Her marriage to Pastor Tim Fowler, and her love for fashion and connecting with people, led her to one of her callings as a retail store manager at The Lerner Shop in her new home town of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Moving to Milwaukee brought new beginnings and many new relationships, which helped Ms. Fowler settle into this new life. While life managing a retail chain was quite fulfilling to Verlee, her greatest joy was uniting with and establishing lifelong relationships with the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church family, then under the leadership of Rev. Kenneth Bowen. Ms. Fowler was a devoted and faithful member of Mt. Moriah for over sixty years, and was involved in many of Mt. Moriah's ministries. She was very organized, and her attention to detail and accuracy led to her being selected to serve on many committees involving finance. She was a member of the Annual Woman's Day Finance Committee and the Woman's Mission Finance Team. She was also an avid supporter of the district and state Lady's Auxiliary. She was a Sunday school teacher at Mt. Moriah for many years, as well as a member of the Usher Board. Ms. Verlee Fowler loved her church family. Quite often, she ministered and counseled many of the younger women of Mt. Moriah. Many of the women affectionately called her "Ma Fowler." As a prayer warrior, she prayed for church members constantly due to her strong love and admiration for the Lord. She was truly blessed and highly favored. We are confident, I say, and willing rather, to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2nd Corinthians 5: 8 In her absence, we mourn our mom, grandma, godmother, aunt, neighbor and friend. Ms. Fowler leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Wanda; son, Lewis; niece, Caren Harper Smith; nephews, Carl Morton and Calvin Harper; 4 grandchildren, Montel, LeVerna, Tosha (Douglas), and Georgette; 2 goddaughters, Kimberly Ramsey-Quinn of Milwaukee, WI and Sheila Boyd-Rhodes of Phoenix, AZ; and her many sons and daughters of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
