Ms. Virginia Kay Cullen

Virginia Kay Cullen was born on September 25, 1952, in Muskegon Heights, Michigan to the union of Roy Edward Cullen and Lorine Cullen. She was the second of six children. She was affectionately called "Kay" by her family from childhood through adulthood. Virginia accepted Christ at an early age. Baptized at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Virginia served faithfully in many capacities such as singing in the choir, serving as an usher, and serving as leader of the finance committee. Later, Virginia joined Gospel Lutheran Church where she led the youth choir and served as a member of the finance committee. Virginia attended Hopkins Street Elementary School, Robert Fulton Junior High School, and North Division High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and earned her Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. In 1975, Virginia was employed by Milwaukee Public Schools as a teacher at Congress Elementary School. She transferred to Jackie Robinson Middle School in 1979, where she taught. middle school students for 1 O years. Virginia dedicated her life to teaching and inspiring children. In 1989, Virginia was promoted to the position of assistant principal of Henry Palmer Elementary School. She was promoted to the position of principal of Jeremiah Curtin School in 1991. She served as the school's leader until her retirement in 2011. Virginia enjoyed reading novels, singing in the choir, sharing· lunch dates with friends, line dancing, tutoring, having Soul Food Sunday dinners with family and friends at her mother's home, and buying the latest gadgets. Virginia found great joy in investing in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and countless children whose love and accomplishments will be a part of her legacy. Virginia Kay Cullen departed this life on Monday, July 20, 2026. She was preceded in death by her: parents, Roy Edward Cullen Sr. and Lorine Cullen; and brothers, Roy Edward Cullen Jr. and Danny Cullen. Virginia leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Nia Cullen; sisters, Martha Sue Cullen Miles and Ava Yvonne Cullen; brother, Cy Cullen; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends. So many lives were blessed by her kindness, faith, and unwavering love.
