Mrs. Virginia McKay

Early Monday morning on August 7, 2023, God was admiring His flower garden. He noticed one extremely beautiful flower with a sweet aroma and decided to pick it. That flower was our beloved Virginia. Virginia Fails was born on July 7, 1947, in Greenville, Alabama. She was the eldest of four children born to the loving and proud union of Edward Fails and Annie Laura Davis Fails. During her early childhood, the Fails family moved from Greenville to Milwaukee. Growing up in Milwaukee, she received her primary education within the Milwaukee Public School System and graduated from North Division High School (Blue Devils) in June of 1965. During her time in high school, Virginia played volleyball, softball, and was a member of the drill team. After graduation, she continued to enhance her education at Bryant & Stratton Business College completing her tenure with a Certificate of Administration. Virginia confessed her faith in Christ in the early 1960's while attending St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor James Lathan. During her membership there, she participated and sang with the Young Adults Choir. Her work experience began as a participant in North Division's work study program, where she found employment at Harley-Davidson Inc. Upon the completion of her Administration Certificate from Bryant & Stratton Business College, Virginia found employment with Milwaukee County. During her time with Milwaukee County, she held various positions (registration/records, clerk, and dispatcher}. Virginia retired from Milwaukee County after 37 wonderful years. She loved gathering with her family. During the family gatherings, her task was to bring the lasagna and bread. She spent countless weekends shopping, eating out, and traveling. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and is also remembered as a contestant on television show, Bowling for Dollars. One of her favorite times of the year was The Girl's Trip; she spent this time with her mother, daughter, granddaughter, and sisters. Virginia is remembered for her soft-spoken personality, sense of humor, and for being a great listener to everyone. Unbeknown to Virginia, she attended the some high school as the love of her life, Lewis (Billy) McKay Jr. Billy jokingly remembers their love story beginnings on a cold January night in 1980. Virginia tried to trip him to get his attention and the rest was history. The two married in March of 1991 and Billy began to affectionately call her "Ginny". During their love story, they enjoyed traveling together with their travel partners Gregorie and Debbie McKay . Two of their favorite adventures to embark upon during those times were a cruise and traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada. As years went on, the two enjoyed one another's company at home while watching their favorite television shows and listening to music. Virginia and Billy were happily married for 32 years. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Annie Foils, and her nephew, Eric Horne. She leaves to cherish on abundance of memories: husband, Lewis (Billy) McKay Jr.; daughter, Amino (Andre) Patterson of Wisconsin; two sons, Eric (Wynter) McKay of Georgia and Bryon McKay of Florida; grandchildren, MiKayla Patterson of Wisconsin, and Kennedy and Cameron McKay of Georgia; sister, Deborah Armstrong; adoptive sister, Annie Meekins; brothers, John G. Foils and Anthony Bernard Foils, all of Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Susan McKay and Debbie McKay; brothers-in-law, Bobbie (Ouida) McKay, Morvin (Stacey) McKay, and Dwayne (Lisa) McKay, all of Wisconsin, and Kevin (Gwen) McKay of California; loving aunt, Pauline Davis of Wisconsin; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other special loved ones. Through her life experiences, Virginia found friendships with so many people and it is impossible to name them all. If by chance you don't see your name, be comforted in knowing that your name is written in Virginia's heart.
