Mr. William Sylvester Polk

William Sylvester Polk was born on February 9,1951, to the union of Nannie (Merchant) Polk and Sylvester Polk in Havre de Grace, Maryland. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was nurtured in faith, becoming united with Saint James A.M.E. Church, where his spiritual foundation was firmly rooted. William, affectionately known as "Bill, "received his formal education through the Milwaukee Public School System. He graduated from Rufus King High School in 1969, and that year he proudly earned the title of "Best Dressed", an honor he joyfully reminisced about as often as he could. On August 22, 1983, Bill was united in holy matrimony with Regina (Scott) Polk in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together they shared 50 years of life and just shy of 43 years of marriage. Their union was one of love, commitment, and enduring partnership, and together they were blessed with two children who became the pride and joy of his life. Bill was a dedicated and dependable man who took great pride in his work. He was employed by Usinger's as a driver, where he faithfully served for 38 years before retiring in 2016. His strong work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of all who knew and worked alongside him. Bill took great pride in providing for his family. Bill enjoyed life and cherished time spent with friends. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played football, baseball, and softball in his youth and continued playing softball into his late 30s. He was especially passionate about football and never missed an opportunity to debate the game or proudly support his beloved Green Bay Packers. Music was another of Bill's great loves. He spent many happy hours in what he fondly called his "jazz lounge." Though jazz held a special place in his heart, his favorite group was The Temptations, and he firmly believed that David Ruffin was the greatest lead singer of all time. An avid reader with a deep appreciation for history, Bill was a wealth of knowledge and storytelling. During retirement, he could often be found relaxing on the patio wearing his hat, smoking his pipe, listening to music, and enjoying life at his own pace. He was a man of calm presence, quiet wisdom, and steady love. Though he described himself as a "loner," Bill was truly loved by all who knew him. His presence was magnetic, his smile contagious, and his spirit unforgettable. On April 25, 2026, William Sylvester peacefully departed this life. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Nannie Polk and Sylvester Polk. He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife. Regina Polk; his son, Adrian Polk; his sister, Joyce Polk; his brother, George (Victoria) Polk; his three cherished grandchildren, Oualon Polk, Aren Polk, and Aniqh Chambers; along with a host of loving cousins, extended family, and dear friends. William will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering love for his family, and the steady presence he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on forever. in the hearts of all who knew him.
